Public Relations Director

The Role:

Interdependence Public Relations is seeking to hire a Director to support our growing team and the agency’s impressive client roster as a key member. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned account manager with excellent strategic planning, management, communication, writing, presentation, leadership and relationship skills.


This role executes client programs, manages team members, develops performance goals, and serves as a primary client relationship manager and resource for senior counsel. As a primary day-to-day client contact and project manager, the Director will provide support to account team(s) and help lead the execution of media relations initiatives, development of media materials plus client assets and help manage entry-level talent/mid-level staff. In this role you’ll be a part of the senior leadership team and work alongside the executive leaders across the organization.

The Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple projects from concept to completion, on time
  • Proactively generate new ideas and opportunities to ensure client program success
  • Help develop and write strategic memos and client presentations
  • Instruct entry-level staff in the areas of media relations and writing/document creation
  • Plan and execute media relations programs, events and launch activities; lead media relations efforts and initiatives
  • Provide senior-level account planning and supervision for major, key accounts with proven, specialized expertise in public relations; serve as a strategic liaison among clients, account team and agency management
  • Maintain relationships with key national/industry media and participate in proactive outreach to generate thought leadership opportunities, feature stories, business profiles for clients
  • Lead the planning and execution of media programs and activities
  • Serve as a primary, day-to-day, client contact and provide strong client counsel on tactical matters linked to strategic plans
  • Anticipate client needs and prepare in advance
  • Interact with senior-level colleagues and clients and troubleshoot clients’ problems as they arise
  • Ensure that all accounts are strategically on target with clients’ business objectives
  • Display strong team leadership and ensure that the team continues to drive media results for clients, proactively pitching media daily and secure publicity for clients (local, regional, national); continue to generate client thought leadership opportunities; maintain existing relationships with media, journalists and influencers; keep current with journalist specialism/interest
  • Help account team work effectively and in the best interest of client; maximize the agency’s network of resources to enhance client services
  • Maintain a thorough, demonstrated understanding of clients’ businesses and industries; actively follow and understand emerging issues, trends and news impacting your clients’ business, and proactively advise the team and client regarding how best to leverage or address these developments
  • Lead account team strategy sessions and brainstorms and the corresponding the development, planning and execution of client media strategies
  • Lead integrated campaigns through a demonstrated, working knowledge of social influence, emerging digital platforms and creative problem solving
  • Moderate media interviews; assist with media training for clients; initiate implementation of media events such as press conferences, briefings and media tours; serve as the senior on-site agency contact for clients’ events
  • Showcase a deep knowledge of, and the proven ability to, effectively articulate the full services of IDPR, procedures and business methods
  • Report to senior management on progress of team members and accounts; serve as the liaison between senior management and staff
  • Contribute to the new business pipeline through research and prospecting; support successful pitches and recognize opportunities for organic client growth
  • Manage supervisors and account leads regarding progress on deliverables, media outreach processes and actively offer solutions to pivot where needed or enhance the project

Qualifications:

  • At least 8-10 years communications experience in public relations and/or journalism 
  • Previous agency experience required, with 3+ years in a management role developing, evaluating, and retaining strong teams and collaborative cultures
  • Ability to provide high level counsel to clients about communications in different aspects including strategy, thought leadership building, media relations as well as issues and crisis management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly creative, mature, well organized with analytical ability
  • Proven track record of success in securing feature stories and business profiles for clients and managing client accounts 
  • Experience in managing and motivating a team, as well as contributing to overall company development

Public Relations Account Supervisor, Technology

The Role:

Interdependence Public Relations is seeking to hire an Account Supervisor to support the agency’s top clients. The ideal candidate is someone who has deep expertise in technology including media relations and is willing to roll up their sleeves to work on other verticals, if needed. This is an opportunity to take on a role as a strategic advisor and a partner to clients, deliver executive-level PR strategies, uncover compelling narratives and help teams across the agency secure top-tier press. In this position you’ll work alongside senior leaders across the organization to manage accounts, projects, budgets and teams both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

The Responsibilities:  

  • Communicates big picture logistics and tactics to team
  • Defines and adjusts strategies appropriately
  • Provides direct counsel and is seen as an expert plus a valuable partner by the client
  • Functions as primary support to Directors and Vice President 
  • Writes comprehensive client and new business plans, requiring minimal edits from senior leaders 
  • Takes an active role in developing new business for practice area or participating in presentations 
  • Writes and edits client materials 
  • Able to lead client meetings and presentations independently 
  • Builds framework to track and measure client results
  • Works alongside Vice President to monitor account profitability, track hours, etc.
  • Facilitates professional development opportunities for the agency (i.e. lunch and learns, etc.)
  • Provides fundamental management and mentorship to Senior Account Executives and Account Executives 
  • Actively builds firm visibility through networking opportunities and new marketing initiatives 
  • Demonstrates expertise in tech and/or finance
  • Seeks new development opportunities to refine skills and industry expertise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in related field required
  • Requires 5+ years of tech PR experience, preferably with agency vs. in-house
  • Thinks strategically 
  • Demonstrates exemplary follow-through and execution skills
  • Embraces new methodologies, with an entrepreneurial spirit 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, writing and presentation skills
  • Previously managed accounts/budgets and supervised at least one team member

Public Relations Account Executive

The Role:

An Account Executive at Interdependence Public Relations will be a go getter, wearer of many hats, and someone who is ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work. As an integral player at the agency, Account Executives collaborate closely with team members to help meet client goals by building impactful media relationships, crafting strong pitches and consistently offering creative and on-point deliverables. The ideal Account Executive is proactive and eager, meets or beats deadlines, stays ahead of trends and always looks for new ways to solve problems. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two to three years of PR agency experience and must demonstrate thoughtfulness and creativity, a positive attitude, excellent communication plus writing skills, an obsessive attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

The Responsibilities:  

  • Establishes effective relationships with key media contacts across national, regional, local and industry-specific outlets 
  • Interfaces and develops a rapport with clients, internal team members and vendors 
  • Drafts a range of written materials – such as media pitches, award submissions, briefing sheets, client-ready content, etc. 
  • Helps coordinate special events (e.g. briefings at large trade shows, desk sides in key media markets, product launches, etc.)
  • Actively participates in team and client meetings in addition to available training programs 
  • Proactively finds ways to advance both teams and clients
  • Assists the team on executing campaigns and with various projects such as plans, research, media relations activities and more 
  • Works with director supervisor to set goals and build skills
  • Serves as a mentor to AAE’s and interns
  • Completes work product, timesheets and reports accurately   
  • Contributes and support to 8-10 accounts (on average)

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of full-time experience in PR (agency experience preferred) with growing expertise in related practice area
  • Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism, advertising or related field
  • Ability to develop story angles, place stories and coordinate interviews with media
  • Excellent communication, organizational and writing skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, creative and fast-paced environment
  • A team player who works well with others and independently as needed
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and enthusiasm to learn new skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PR software (e.g. Cision, etc.)
